Book Review: The Alchemy of Finance. Reflexivity, as it pertains to financial markets, has been a concept the 79 year old George Soros has passionately espoused since his 1987 book, The Alchemy of Finance. Imagine if you could command billions of dollars just because you were incredibly talented with maths and programming. So it's three books predicting disaster. This book tells you what it takes to operate a fund worth 100 billions. Imagine if all it took to make millions was to come up with some mathematical formula. I did it first in The Alchemy of Finance (in 1987), then in The Crisis of Global Capitalism (in 1998) and now in this book. George Soros, the great global macro hedge fund manager who recently made headlines for making a billion dollars in profit being short the yen, wrote at length about this concept in his 1987 book The Alchemy of Finance.
